Petrus

Very talented cartoonist, Petrus De Man manages to capture the soul of a line of a subject, the essence of a situation. His compositions, an apparent simplicity, are actually the result of a long observation work. Its minimalist design makes it obvious that only the trained eye can perceive. Born in 1955, Petrus De Man describes his first drawings at the age of 17 years. After a solid training in St. Lukasinstituut Ghent, he became teacher himself while pursuing his personal work. Since 1990, his designs are regularly exposed in Belgium and France. Twins born April 24, 1955 in Halle, grew up in Uccle in a large family. It follows the classical humanities at St. Jan Berchmanscollege in Brussels and then to O.-L.-Vrouwecollege Halle. Encouraged by his father, himself a poet and art lover, as well as his uncle Jef Colruyt, which gives the first drawing lessons, Petrus De Man made those years with charming and naive paintings inspired by the Customs Henri Rousseau and folk art. His work is appreciated. He was 17 when he exhibited for the first time. His contacts with the mime Frederik Van Melle, the puppeteer and sculptor and designer Stéphane Ponette Luc Claus help him clarify his future projects. In Ghent he enrolled at St. Lukasinstituut in printmaking at Raf Coorevits and paint shop at Dan Van Severen. After graduating in 1980, he taught drawing in the same upper secondary school). In 1989 he finally chooses the independent status and began as a graphic designer in the textile field. Meanwhile, Petrus De Man continues his personal work that has in general exhibitions. It is pointed out by the so-called "official" galleries and since 1990 his drawings are regularly exposed in Belgium (Galerie Pierre Hallet) and abroad (Gallery Callu-Merite) with the success that we know. Since 1996 it diversified its activities by giving drawing lessons in his own workshop.
